Xscape vs. SWV Verzuz Battle of ’90s Female R&B Groups

The highly anticipated  battle between 90s girl group Xscape vs. SWV aka Sisters with Voices did not disappoint. IT WAS AMAZING . SWV is made up of three members – Cheryl “Coko” Gamble, Tamara “Taj” George and Leanne “Lelee” Lyons. All three singers come from New York and SWV (Sisters With Voices) formed in 1988. Coko and Taj are 50 years old while Lelee is 47 years old.

During their Verzuz Battle, SWV performed some of their biggest hits including “Weak“, “Rain“, “MCE” as well as Coko’s “Sunshine“. During their career, SWV have sold over 25 million records worlwide.  Xscape  is a female R&B group from Atlanta, Georgia, formed in 1992 by Kandi BurrussTameka “Tiny” CottleLaTocha Scott, Tamera Coggins-Wynn, and Tamika Scott.

The Mother’s Day Verzuz Battle took place on Saturday, May 8th 2021. After 20 rounds, the performances were pretty equal as per Billboard. However, looking at Billboard’s scoring, SWV just took the win.

Xscape won the “Wider Catalogue” category as well as “People’s Champ”, “Best Banter” and “Biggest KO” went to SWV.

We felt the energy in the first half was a little low especially with SWV but they came blazing like fire  for the second half after a costume change. Xscape  were flawless for the first half we thought that they sounded great. Below is a review from Billboard but in our perspective they both won it was a great presentation by both groups that took us down memory lane.
