Jada Pinkett Smith is going to turn her alopecia into a crown

Jada Pinkett Smith recently shared an update on her journey dealing with hair loss in a candid video posted on Instagram on Tuesday.

The actress gave an update on the condition and revealed she’s going to turn her latest hair loss into a rhinestone crown.

The actor showed her shaved head in the video, pointing to a line that she said had suddenly appeared on top of her head.

“Now at this point I can only laugh … now y’all know I’ve been struggling with alopecia,” she said before pointing to her head.

“Now this is going to be a little more difficult for me to hide, so I thought I should just share it so y’all not asking questions,” she continued.

The “Red Table Talk” host then noted she was going to place “rhinestones” on her head to create a “crown.”

Pinkett Smith has openly discussed her journey with alopecia areata, an autoimmune disease that causes hair loss.

During a 2018 episode of her Facebook Watch series “Red Table Talk,” she recalled the “terrifying” experience of first dealing with hair loss.

“I was in the shower one day and then just handfuls of hair, just in my hands,” she said, before adding, “It was one of those times in my life where I was literally shaking with fear.”

The actor debuted her shaved head with a selfie she posted on Instagram in July, writing at the time that her daughter, Willow, “made me do it because it was time to let go.”

“My 50s are about to be Divinely lit with this shed,” she wrote.

Pinkett Smith shared an uplifting note about her journey in the caption of her Instagram post on Tuesday, writing, “Me and this alopecia are going to be friends … period!”

Back in September, the actress shared her alopecia journey on an episode of Red Table Talk when speaking to guests Tiffany Haddish and Yvonne Orji. Now a few months later, Jada has provided fans with an update on her life dealing with hair loss in a recent intimate Instagram post.

“Now at this point, I can only laugh,” Jada said, showcasing the bald patch on her scalp that makes a perfect line on the centre of her head. “Y’all know I’ve been struggling with alopecia and just all of a sudden one day, look at this line right here. Look at that.”

Alopecia is an autoimmune disorder that causes hair loss. Luckily, alopecia isn’t life-threatening and can oftentimes get better with the right treatment.

Jada shared in the candid post that her alopecia is becoming harder to hide due to more hair falling out. She had shaved down her hair to make the side effects less noticeable, but the line has become more prominent over time. Jada jokingly noted in the caption that she wanted to clear the air now “so nobody thinks she got brain surgery or something.”

“So, I thought I’d just share it so y’all are not asking any questions.”

Pinkett Smith is taking it all in stride though, she shared how she even wants to add some scalp décor to make beauty of the new look.

“But, you know, mama’s going to put some rhinestones in there. I’m just gonna make me a little crown,” she stated. “That’s what mama’s gonna do.” We know if she added rhinestones to her head, that would be all the rage in 2022.

Jada initially openly discussed her struggles with alopecia in 2018 on Red Table Talk where she shared when she just started losing hair.

“It was terrifying when it first started,” Jada shared. “I was in the shower one day and had just handfuls of hair in my hands and I was just like, ‘Oh my god, am I going bald?’”

To slow down the hair loss over the past 3 years, Jada had turned to steroid injections to prevent the acceleration of losing hair so prematurely.

On this year’s RTT episode featuring Haddish and Orji, they all discussed chopping off their hair and the freedom they felt in the hairstyle. Jada also shared that she feels more connected to herself and “the great divine in a special way” since taking the plunge.
